QuoteIt
--------------------------------------------------------------------
QuoteIt will produce a new bulletin each time that it is run using a
list that you make. I had a quoting program on my BBS for a long
that worked well, but it was always annoying that it would not allow
me to have a blank line anywhere within a quote. This program will
allow you to do that.
Associated files are:
QUOTEIT.EXE - main program
QUOTEIT.CFG - path and BBS information (created by QuoteIt)
QUOTEIT.LST - list of quotes or phrases that you make
QUOTEIT.ANS - ANSI bulletin created by QuoteIt
QUOTEIT.ASC - ASCII bulletin created by QuoteIt
Starting QuoteIt
Begin QuoteIt by merely running QUOTEIT at the dos prompt. If this is
the first time that the program has been run then you will be prompted
for your path and BBS information and the file QUOTEIT.CFG will be
created. After this you will need to use your favorite text editor to
produce an ASCII only file of the quotes or phrases that you want to
be put into the bulletins.
1. The QUOTEIT.LST file
The list of quotes/phrases must be in a file named QUOTEIT.LST.
this list can be as long as you like. In the list you create
each quote/phrase must be preceeded by an exclamation mark "!"
on a line alone. For example:
!
Quote blah, blah, blah.....
!
Quote blah, blah, blah.....
!
Quote blah, blah, blah.....
Each quote/phrase may be as many lines as you like and may
contain blank lines as well.
2. The QUOTEIT.CFG file
This file contains the paths and output filenames that you want
the QuoteIt program to produce. It will also contain a number
so that QuoteIt can keep track of which quote it should use next.
If you wish to create this file manually or edit it later the
format is:
d:\path\filename.ext [drive][path][ASCII output filename]
d:\path\filename.ext [drive][path][ANSI output filename]
If this file does not exist when you run QuoteIt then the program
will prompt you for the information.
To use QuoteIt the files QUOTEIT.EXE, QUOTEIT.CFG, QUOTEIT.LST
must be in the same directory. Just run QuoteIt in your batch
file and the next quote/phrase in the list will be written into
the bulletins.
